The Human Element

The story so far
Two decades of getting
the details right
Dave Hill
I started building for the web when CSS was new and "mobile-first" wasn't a phrase.
Over two decades working across agencies, in-house teams, and as an independent consultant, I've seen what makes digital projects succeed — and watched plenty fail.
Most failures come down to the same things: solutions chosen before problems are understood, accessibility treated as an afterthought, and tools built to impress clients rather than to actually work.
Hyperwoven is the answer to all of that. Small by design. Focused on outcomes. Accessible from the first commit.
Years building for the web
The minimum standard on every project
Human-reviewed. Always.
Principles
What I actually believe
-
Accessibility isn't optional
WCAG compliance is the floor, not the ceiling. Every person who can't use your site is a person you've failed.
-
AI is a tool, not a shortcut
I use AI to go faster and document better. But I review every decision. AI doesn't ship without me.
-
Small is often better
I'm not an agency. I work with a small number of clients at a time. That's how I do good work.
Philosophy
How I work
-
Slowly, then fast
Discovery takes as long as it takes. Rushing that stage costs more later. Once I understand the problem properly, the build moves quickly.
-
In the open
You see progress from the first week. No big reveals. No surprises. Regular check-ins and early access to working builds.
-
With radical transparency
I tell you when something is AI-assisted. I tell you when I think you're asking for the wrong thing. I tell you when I can't help.
